HOW WE HELP
What do we do here in Racine County?
Assist people with short-term financial aid mainly in housing and utility crisis situations. For assistance call 262-497-2734
Sponsor a food pantry at 926 LaSalle Street, Racine, Tuesday through Thursday from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
Provide a hot meal at 1032 Grand Avenue, Racine, every Tuesday at 5:30pm. Temporarily closed. We are working to reopen soon.
Accept donations that are resold at our thrift store to help support our programs.
Work with other service agencies to address the causes of poverty.
Collaborate with Catholic Charities to assist individuals with legal immigration issues.
We receive calls daily from people struggling in our community. Often a crisis of losing a job, illness or other unexpected financial challenges leads to an inability to pay the rent or maintain electricity in a home. We try to help avoid eviction and disconnection of electricity through our crisis assistance efforts. Our crisis support starts with a home visit.
GIVE US A CALL: 262-497-2734
When called for help, SVdP volunteers make visits to the homes of those requesting assistance. Home visitation is the cornerstone of our mission. In these visits, we get to know the people and their families, what challenges they are experiencing and determine how we can help. We may provide financial assistance for rent or utilities, information and referrals to other community resources and most importantly, we bring the spirituality and love of the poor into their lives. It does not matter what the faith of the person is, we bring community support into the homes, often at times when we are their last hope.
Our food pantry provides help to hungry families in the city of Racine. The pantry is located at the SVdP Center at 926 LaSalle St. and is open most Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Donations are received from local churches, other donors and community food banks. Volunteers help sort, shelve and package the food. Ohers welcome and register recipients and distribute food.
Closed due to COVID-19
We are working to reopen on Tuesday evening, to provide a hot meal for the hungry. A time and location will be announced when plans are finalized. We are looking forward to once again welcoming and serving our guests at our table.
SVdP Thrift Store
The Racine SVdP Society has a thrift store in Waterford. The store helps to provide funding for our outreach ministries and helps the community in recycling items that can be affordable and valuable to our shoppers. Volunteers are always welcome and appreciated in this important work.
